EMERGEANDSEE was founded as a short film festival in the year 2000. Over the years, it emerged and grew to what we call Media Arts Festival today, but the EMERGEANDSEE short film competition is still an important part of the festival, where innovative motion pictures, animations, documentations and experimental imagery from around the world compete for the win, judged by our jury.

The empty pool at Stattbad Wedding features a perfect surrounding for showing films, as you may see on the picture above. This year’s short film competition focuses on “Hybrid Metropolis: In between spaces” and deals with the “self” vs. the “other”, with questions about identity, the meaning of (urban) space and life in between and within different cultures.

EMERGEANDSEE entstand im Jahr 2000 als Kurzfilmfestival. Mit den Jahren entwickelte sich jedoch eine kontinuierliche Öffnung neuen und unterschiedlichen Formaten gegenüber, so dass wir in diesem Jahr bei der Bezeichnung Media Arts Festival angelangt sind. Der Kurzfilm Wettbewerb stellt nachwievor eine bedeutende Sektion des Festivals dar, hier konkurrieren innovative Spielfilme, Animationen, Dokumentarisches oder experimentelle Bilderwelten aus der ganzen Welt vor den Augen unserer Jury.

Das leere Schwimmbecken im Stattbad Wedding bietet eine ganz besondere Art der Filmvorführung, die sich in diesem Jahr Kurzfilmen zum Thema “Hybride Metropolis: Zwischen Räumen” widmet und sich mit dem Eigenen und dem Fremden, mit Fragen zu Identität, der Bedeutung des (urbanen) Raumes und dem Leben zwischen und innerhalb verschiedener Kulturen auseinandersetzt.
